Reflection: Blog 7

9.3.1 Reflection: how have the landforms of Africa encouraged movement of people and goods? how have they discouraged movement?

39 comments:

  1. The landforms of Africa have encouraged the movement of people and goods because not many people want to live in a desert like the Sahara, where its hot and there is little rainfall. So they move to a different part of the continent. It has discouraged movement because cities are so far apart, the dramatic climate changes and its a lot of land to travel across.

  2. The landforms of Africa have encouraged the movement of people and goods because the people of the desert for instance, the desert does not supply all their needs, so they must travel.(nomads)It has discouraged movement because there is a lot land to ravel and cities are so far apart.

  3. The landforms of Africa have encouraged the movement of people and goods because some places offer better farming areas, better weather, and have more natural resources. It has discouraged movement because in places like most of Africa there is not great technology, it is hard to get to place to place.

  4. The landforms of Africa have encouraged movement because many people might not want to live in a desert, or mountains, and they would move because the deserts do not have any resources. hey discourage movemtn because people are not able to travel by river.

  5. The landforms of Africa have encouraged movement because some might have fertile soil to grow crops. Some places many offer better shelter than others. The discourage of movement may be because people do know were to go and how to get to another place.

  6. The landforms of africa encourage movement because you cannot get all of the needed resources from one area forcing you to move to other places to trade or other goods and resources. Movement is discouraged because the extreme weather can kill you when on the move.

  7. The landforms of Africa have encouraged movement because people need to move where the resources are, so they do. That is a positive thing because they are taking what they have and using it to their advantage. A negative effect is cities are spread wide apart because resources are in such different areas, and it makes it hard for trading.

  8. The landforms of Africa encouraged movement of people and goods because the land was easy to travel on. Most of Africa is a vast plateau. The people migrated across the plateaus and traders followed their routes. The landforms also discouraged movement because people who tried to sail up the rivers of Africa were blocked by cataracts, large waterfalls. Also, the sheer cliffs, high mountains, and deep valleys were dangerous to migrate on.

  9. African landforms encouraged migration and trade. Plateaus have decreased the difficulty of people's movement because it gives a flat area to move around. However, the escarpments are extremely steep and won't allow easy access over them. Rivers provide hydroelectric power to supply energy from the moving water. Rich soil is deposited as well creating important farmlands. Trade and migration is discouraged because cataracts and huge rapids make swimming or trade shipping ships impossible to move far distances. Lastly, mountains, valleys, and their uneven terrain discourage building of roads andrailroads to transport goods.

  10. African land forms have encouraged movement of people and goods for several reasons. To begin, people move because of how the land forms are and what is on it. For instance, deserts, people don't want to live in deserts, so they move. And weather systems within an area, it may be dangerous weather so people move. Another reason would be to trade. The land forms discourage movement because how land forms are shaped and where they are. Mountains get in the way of movement. And the every harsh rivers stop movement. Large expanses of dangerous land also stops people from risking there lives.

  11. African land forms have encouraged the movement of people and goods because some areas are high, platues, and some ares are low valleys. Sometimes hunting can be better in one of those places and the mass of the population will move there to survive. It could discourage movement because Africa has deep valleys' that run for thousands of miles and could discourage people to make the journey across.

  12. The landforms of Africa have encouraged movement of people and goods because they encouraged trade and immigration. The plateaus have given Africans easy land to walk on as well as many rivers to eat, drink, and trade from. Knowing that there are many countries and not many resources, there is an uneven distribution between minerals, trade items, and other goods. Also, this would discourage the immigration of people because of the harsh deserts and weather conditions, as well as the journeys from mountain ranges and deep valleys. Since Africa can not produce everything they need, they must trade for other goods. Knowing that there are only about ten countries that actually have resources, these ten countries will receive all the wealth and power of Africa. This causes uneven distribution of resources and causes parts of Africa to die off.

  13. It has encouraged movement of goods by trading for what they need because they have a certain resource maybe another part of Africa needs. One way it discourages trade is that it makes it hard to go through certain parts of Africa. Such as the deserts, rivers, and plateaus.

  14. Landforms such as plateaus have made many rivers unnavigable by causing waterfalls at the edge of the plateau. This makes it impossible to travel through Africa by water route safely. However, life was a lot easier travelling on the flat areas, unless you picked to go through the Sahara, which would be stupid since there aren't any resources and little water for a long journey. okay....the resources in the land also make it smart and easy to travel along the coast, since there are many resources and therefore cities and trade centers. Landforms encourage movement of goods and people by supplying simple, obvious routes. It discourages by eliminating water trade and adding hard to pass through features like deserts and waterfalls.

  15. The landforms os Africa encourage movement of people and goods through trade. They discourage movement by creating a challenge for traveling with the deserts to pass through, mountains to climb, and rivers to cross.

  16. The vast and diverse land of Africa is filled with many different climate zones, natural resources, rivers, and major landforms, like mountains plateaus, and deserts. Landforms of Africa have encouraged the movement of people and goods because not all of the physical traits of the land in Africa are suitable for a healthy human lifestyle. For example, living in one hundred thirty degree weather where it sometimes won't rain for ten years isn't a suitable way of living unless your part camel. Food, shelter, and water are the three main things we need to survive, besides clothing. Without these things, we will not be able to live, so we must move to a place in Africa where things can be made out of natural and renewable resources. You need natural resources to be available in case of famine or food shortage. The landforms of Africa have discouraged movement as well. Living somewhere blockaded by tall mountain ranges or rough rapids will cause you to move to somewhere more convenient. The climate zones in Africa must also be descent, people cannot live in a place where leaching occurs. Plateaus are also difficult to travel on because of the elevations. These are all contributing factors as to how the landforms of Africa can encourage and discourage movement.

  17. The landforms of Africa encouraged movement of people and goods because people could move down a river to more fertile land. They could also move to a different place to find where there was better weather that suited them more. Also, they might move to go to a place where minerals were around. The landforms discouraged movement because there is so much land that people might get lost, have trouble crossing fast rivers, get dehydration because of the extreme heat, or not get from city to city because they are so far apart.

  18. african landforms have encouraged the movement because not manny people want to live in a dessert which is always hot and has very little rain fall. the landforms discouraged movement because the land is so widely spread apart and with many different types of climates all around the continent. it is also hard to travel by river because most of the time u cant get very far because there are so many waterfalls and rapids. these are the ways that the landforms discouraged and encouraged people.

  19. Africa's voluminous land mass and illimitable resources allows it to have a very unique geography and endorses countless cultures to trade and spread throughout the region. Firstly, the Sahara desert that envelops most of the northern continent proves to be a difficult obstacle for many populations of Africa. With it's stagnant landscape and it's dry, blazing temperatures, the Sahara appears to be impossible to travel through. Thankfully, Humanity has learned to adapt to such harsh conditions, and a transportation method known as a "Caravan" Has been invented and used for hundreds of years. Thus, humanity have been able to prosper from the inhabitable Sahara. The Great Rift Valley also proves to contribute positive effects upon the people of Africa. With its fertile, volcanic soil, it provides some of the greatest farmland available. Surprisingly, there are numerous, and gigantic, rivers scattered all across Africa which supply a large amount of Hydroelectric power. With all these wonderful renewable resources, Africa tends to be stricken with poverty, corruption, and vanity. The poor economy that hangs present in most African countries leads to global deficiency in the economy. This leaves most of the population with inadequate supplies, food, water, and the basic needs of living. Yet, the people of Africa have a remarkable diverse culture filled with music, dancing, tradition, and family. Truly, Africa is a fascinating, yet an obscuring continent that defies many views and beliefs with its adverse geography regions and cultures.

  20. Landforms in Africa have influenced and encouraged movement of people and goods, because for example people who need to make a living wouldn't live in the Sahara Desert, they would choose a coastal region full of fertile soil and the ocean to fish. In Africa, movement is discouraged because there are many different climates and landforms all over, so you never know where you need to be in what type of season.

  21. The landforms have encouraged the movement of people and goods because in some areas of Africa, it is rich in gold and other valuable resources. In other places in Africa such as their desert, has nothing to offer the people living there and their economy. The landforms have discouraged the movement of people and goods because Africa is a very diverse country where you could be in the middle of the desert and then in a couple of miles, in the rainforest

  22. The Nile river would encourage people to travel through Africa. Also since it is a plateau it is mostly flat land, so it is easily traveled. Another thing is it is right in the center of the globe, this makes it easy to get to. One problem is that some rivers are very rough, so you can't get inland and it is very hot! It is center right on the 23 1/2 degrees north and south on the globe.

  23. The landforms of Africa have encouraged the movement of people because some people are closer to eachother and the trade is easier. It has discoraged movement because they might not have the fetile land and rivers they need to actually get the crops and whatever else they want.

  25. African landforms have encouraged the movement of people for many reasons, because the natural resources of africa are unevenly distributed. People travel to get to different places and also to get water for crops and other things. Also different parts of Africa have fertile soil and flat land, others may have poor soil, bad location, and uneven land.

  26. Landforms of Africa have encouraged the movement of people and good because people do not want to live in a dry, hot desert, but they still wanna live in the same continent so they can move to a different part of Africa to keep cool yet warm. Landforms have discouraged movement because the different cities are so far apart, and there are different climate changes in different areas in Africa.

  27. The African landforms have encouraged the movement of people and goods because not all resources are in one location. In Africa, the resources are unevenly distributed causing people to migrate to trade the other goods. They also might migrate to be near the nile river for a water supply. Landforms also discourage movement because if people need to get to the other side of the mountain, they might be discouraged because of the mountains height.

  28. Africa's landforms have encouraged/discouraged movement because of their climate. People only want to live somewhere where the climate is bearable, but some people might have adapted to harsh climates like the Sahara desert. Another aspect is convenience. People and goods will transport to places that are easier to go to.

  29. The landforms of Africa have encouraged and discouraged movemnet because of the cllimate and many of then natural obstacles of Africa. A reason why people move in Africa is because the goods of the continent are not evenly distribuited, which means thsat perople have to move to one part of thge continent to get resources that are not in the part that they live in. Landforms have discouraged movemnt because it makes traveling very difficult in the continent. For example, if you wanted to sail upriver, this would not be possible because there might be boulders or rocks in the way, which would not make this impossible.

  30. The landforms in africa have encouraged the movement of people and good because for instance people who live in desert like areas cant survive because that place doesn't meet all their needs so they must migrate to an new area which suits them. It has discouraged movement because cities can be far apart and the climate makes it harder for people to trade and travel.

  33. The landforms in Africa have encouraged the movement of people because most people wouldn't want to live in a hot desert with no fertile soil, so they would move to a different location in Africa with better features. On the other hand, Landforms have discouraged movement because the different places are very far a apart from each other, which makes it harder to move from place to place when the climate changes, which is very often.

  34. landforms have encouraged movement because most people don't like living in the sahara desert, due to the heat and lack of rain, so they move somewhere else that suits them. landforms have discouraged movement because sometimes it's difficult to move from place to place because climate changes and cities' distance from eachother make it difficult for people to move from place to place.

  35. The landforms have encouraged and discouraged movement because of the many climates, natural landforms, and human-built land forms. Other reasons it would be hard to pass through Africa would be because of all of the different terrains in Africa and how close they are together.

  36. The landforms of Africa inspire movement of people and goods as desert land is extremely hard to sustain a farm on, or live for an extended period of time, not to mention that the animals also move due to changing water patterns. the people need to live where animals and water sources exist, and end up changing their home many times.

  37. The landforms of Africa encourage movement because the people in the hot desert are unable to grow there own product and have very low resources so they would travel to get what they would need. The difficulty of movement is how spread apart the land it and the long way to go in the scorching heat.
